Silliness abounds?

Faiden looked out over the Quidditch pitch from high, taking a break as he sat down in the soaring bleachers. He had been running back and forth all day, since today was a big day for Quidditch, there was a game between Gryffindor and Slytherin today, and Professor Roamin was always excited to referee those games. Faiden thought it was likely because he loved giving out penalties to Slytherin students, but he knew better than to say so. His eye caught note of Roamin stomping around the pitch far below, distinctive referee robes different than his normal blood red robes.

Roamin looked up at him. Before Roamin could even start shouting, Faiden took a running leap off the bleacher, plummeting down to the pitch.

He could feel the enchantment on his boots kick in just before he hit the ground, wrapping him in magical energy and protecting him from the fall. Even though he knew they were well enchanted, the faint flicker of fear always arose just before he knew they should kick in. He trusted that Roamin didn't want him to be splattered on the pitch, but he also knew Roamin was slightly absent-minded about his previous helpers, and had found enough evidence to know that some of them hadn't survived before he had become the latest in the line of student pitch helpers.

“Do you have everything ready, Faiden? Got all the Gryffindor stuff squared away?” Roamin said, eyes glinting as he breathed in the freshly cut grass, looking like he might explode from excitement.

“Yes sir. I even squared away all the Slytherin things so they can't accuse you of favouring Gryffindor again.”

Roamin frowned, thinking this over. “But...I do favour Gryffindor.”

Faiden sighed softly, quietly enough Roamin didn't notice. “Yes sir, but this way they can't try and get you fired again.”

Roamin nodded, patting Faiden on the back roughly. “Right right. It wouldn't work, but it's good I've got you around to watch my back just in case. Now why don't you go take a break while I finish setting up the pitch.”

Faiden nodded, doing his best to ignore how Roamin was muttering to himself about setting up traps. He really hoped it was the bird traps he was always going on about, and not traps for Slytherin players. He knew Roamin would win in a fight against the head of Slytherin, but he didn't trust the head of Slytherin to be nearly as honourable as his Professor was.

Faiden nodded at the pack of ravens as he passed them before stopping, realizing that an entire flock of ravens lined neatly up outside the pitch watching him wasn't very normal. He slowly turned back around, staring at the ravens and crows. Maybe ravens and crows. He wasn't sure what they were, but they looked crow like, right?

The ravens and maybe crows all stared and looked at him, tilting their heads slightly, all at the same time.

“Hi?” he said quietly, eyes wide.

“Hi Faiden!” they all squawked at the same time before laughing at him as he took off into a mad run, fleeing from the pack of corvids that knew his name. Professor Roamin hadn't been kidding that the crows had it out for him. He guessed the crows also had it out for him also, since he helped Roamin so much.

Professor Deadbones giggled to himself as he watched Faiden fleeing across the massive field between the Quidditch pitch and the school, the mass of crows and ravens rolling around on the grass as they watched Faiden running away. Deadbones had set up several different magical surveillance systems, ostensibly to keep an eye out for intruders, but really because he liked watching people covertly.

He knew as a professor he should really tell Shichahn to stop scaring the absolute shit out of other students, but he didn't give a shit. He loved watching Shichahn and the rest of the birds (corvids, he remembered her saying, he thought) flying around the school, scaring the other students whenever they found them sneaking away to get it on or to do other illicit activities. He might have to tell her to scare the students sneaking out with other students less, since he liked watching those activities unfold. Maybe he could give her some time off and a portkey to some exotic, bird filled location, then he'd never have to bring it up, and he'd still get to watch.

He turned the surveillance system off, flipping through a book of birds he had purloined from the library, trying to figure out which place might be the least deadly but still interesting to send her to. He got bored about a minute in but groaned, continuing to read the book. He'd just give the job to a student to figure out, but that student would be Shichahn...and he couldn't get her to figure out her own gift, could he?

Yes. Yes he could, he decided as he threw the book across the room, whistling to the owl from across the room.
